Children and Young people
We have a child friendly approach throughout our services.
The refuge itself has a Specialist Children and Young Peoples Play Support Worker who will assist parents to find school and nursery places, help out with parenting advice, and work one on one with children and young people to make sure their stay is happy and safe.
More resources on helping a child or young person can be accessed a the hideout
Refuge
The children and young people we work with in the refuge are often confused and traumatised by what has happened.
They may have had to lose contact with their family, move schools, leaving behind their friends and hobbies, and have to try and start all over again in a new area to rebuild their lives.
Our Play/Support Worker works closely with the children and young people to try and minimise the impact the abuse has had on them so that they can go on to enjoy a positive future.
This is done by:-
- Enabling each child to be able to realise their true potential
- Helping them to settle into the refuge
- Access new schools
- Making sure their needs are met by trying to integrate them into the local community
- Providing play sessions
- Providing one to one work and support
- Organising family/group activities and outings
